DID Fax
How DID work in Microsoft Fax Server
An important ability for fax server packages is to share fax resources among users. To determine the right recipient of an incoming fax
among hundreds users is a key element. Microsoft
Fax Server supports several ways of achieving this. Each
method has its advantages and disadvantages. Overall, DID
routing is preferred for larger installations, and email
integration.

DID routing using DID line, users can be assigned personal
fax numbers without having to install physical fax lines for
each number. DID line has feature to terminate more than one
number in one physical line ( such as 100 fax numbers to one DID
trunk ) which is different from traditional office or home phone
line.
The numbers of the line are passed to DID fax
module upon receiving the fax, and therefore Microsoft Fax
Server can route the fax to the correct user. DID (Direct Inward
Dial) routing is generally considered the most reliable form of
automatic inbound routing. DID requires you to purchase virtual
phone numbers from your telecom company, which you can assign to
users or departments. The virtual phone number (DID number) will
be passed to DID module so that Microsoft Fax Server knows to
whom the fax should be routed. The system process is completely
transparent to the caller and does not require any effort on
his/her part.
If you have installed multiple DID lines with 1000 fax
numbers, then you can assign each DID number to each user or
destination. DID number appears the same as regular fax number
so that each user own a direct fax number. In User
database, you define each user profile route code match with the
assigned DID number. When someone send fax to the assigned DID
number, Microsoft Fax will route to the user profile base on the
DID number match with user's Route Code. If user has email
address route enable in her user profile, the fax will be routed
to her email address so as for folder or auto print routes. |
